This book is intended for all gay men-especially those aged forty and older-who want to take control of their lives in order to be healthier, and ultimately happier, individuals. The goal of this book is to alter and correct the public consciousness of gay people and to raise awareness about gay lifestyles.
In 2007, it is apparent that despite the increasing presence of gays in media, being gay still harbors negative connotations. Celebrities and talk-show personalities still make statements denying their homosexuality, while many known gay personalities refuse to come out for fear of reprisal. The point is that gay men live with this burden of shame, and it affects how well we take care of ourselves. Homosexuality is a way of life. It is not a choice, and we are not defined by the sex act itself. Being gay is who we are.
